Jog Falls is the second highest waterfall in India which falls from a height of 253 meters (829 ft). It is a creation of the Sharavathi River that lies in Shimoga district, Karnataka. There is a Mahatma Gandhi Hydro Electric project that was started way back in 1948. The power house generates about 120 MW capacity of electricity. Jog Falls have been divided into four spectacular cascades well-known as Raja, Rani, Rover, and Rocket.
The falls are particularly best during the monsoon where you could see curving rainbows making the mist colorful. There is also Linganamakki Dam nearby Jogfalls which provides a pleasant experience when the sluice gates of the upstream closed. Jog Falls is a renowned tourist destination to which almost tourist of worldwide visits. The area around the fall is an outstanding spot for people who like to do trekking.
