Surrounded by picturesque nature of the thick deciduous forest, Sirsi is a popular town in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. Marikamba Temple is a famous pilgrimage center in Sirsi where Goddess Shakti is worshiped. Sirsi Marikamba Temple is the main attraction in the town which was built during the 16th century. The temple is known as one of the main seats of Shakti worshipping place in Karnataka. The huge idol of Goddess which is about 7 feet tall is worshiped every day at the temple.
Sirsi Marikamba Temple is also known for its Kavi Art which is on both sides of the temple walls. There is also Maha Ganapati and Shri Gopalakrishna Temples located close to Sri Marikamba Temple. Once in two years, there will be 'Car Festival' in Marikamba Temple where the idol of the Goddess will be carried in a beautiful wooden 'Ratha' to a place called 'Marikamba Gadduge' This is a biggest fair and goddess will be kept there for seven days.
